During the warmer months, I look forward to this chocolatey smoothie most mornings. It is filled with greens like spinach, kale, spirulina, and chlorella but resembles a chocolate shake due to a hefty serving of raw cacao. Cacao has 61 antioxidants, and ample amounts of magnesium which we all need to keep us, eh em, regular.
Makes Approx: 30 ounces
Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
3 cups spinach leaves
1 cup kale
1/2 cucumber, chopped
2 tablespoons raw cacao powder
1 tablespoon raw almond butter
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 cup unsweetened almond milk (chilled)
1 cup young coconut water (chilled)
8 drops liquid stevia (the vanilla creme one is delish!)
1 teaspoon spirulina powder (optional)
6 chlorella tabs (optional)
2 teaspoons maca root powder (optional)
Preparation:
In a Vitamix or other high-speed blender, combine spinach, kale, cucumber, cacao powder, almond butter, chia seeds, almond milk, coconut water, and green powder, spirulina, chlorella and maca root if using these optional add-ons. Blend until smooth and creamy.
Variation:
If you want to take your indulgence to the next level and feel like you are sipping on a decedent dessert, add frozen cherries, raspberries, or strawberries to the mix and enjoy a Chocolate-Covered Berry Smoothie. How sexy is that?!
