Not So Naughty Nog

Day 12

Let the countdown begin! Today marks twelve days and a dozen ways to nourish yourself before Christmas. From now through December 25th, I’ll be gifting you soul-glowing tips, products, recipes, and wisdom that nourish, and treat your dearest loved one…YOU! Check back each day!

On this very first day, I invite you to indulge!

I’m all about splurging with a purpose, treating without cheating…guiltlessly indulging. If I’m going to have chocolate, it is raw and dark. It is decadent yet nutrient dense. If I choose to imbibe, I reach for a nice glass of champagne, or a red with lyrical notes. My savory snacking isn’t a sin. I usually go for olives, seed crackers, guacamole, or hummus. This kind of indulging with healthy intention is a daily occurrence, and as a result I never feel deprived of anything that pleases my palate.

During the holiday season, I, like most, can’t get enough of all things Pumpkin Spice. I also have to have my nog. Sometimes it’s spiked, but most times not. Just as my chocolate and savory snacks go to work for me, so do holiday must haves.

Below I’ve shared my intoxicating holiday nog recipe that you can enjoy hot or cold, and with spirits or without. Not So Naughty Nog

Serves: 2

Ingredients:

1/2 cup raw cashews

1/4 tsp. sea salt

1 tsp. ground nutmeg

2 tablespoons Vega One Vanilla Chai Protein Powder

2 pitted medjool dates

1 1/2 cups plant-based milk such as coconut, almond, hemp, or hazelnut

6 ice cubes (if enjoying cold)

Cinnamon for sprinkling

Preparation:

1. Soak cashews over night in water. When ready to prepare your nog, drain the cashews, rinse, and add to blender.

2. Add sea salt, nutmeg, protein powder, medjool dates, plant milk, and ice (if using) to blender.

3. Blend on high for one minute. Divide between two glasses, sprinkling with cinnamon, and serve.

Notes: if adding spirits, do so after the blending is complete. If you wish to enjoy warm, pour blended nog into a small saucepan, and heat on medium until desired temperature is reached. Pour into mugs, garnish, and serve.
