Chocolate Peppermint Candy Shake

Here we are at day four of the Twelve Days and a Dozen Ways to Nourish You Before Christmas and I thought perhaps by now you might be wanting a little treat that is not a cheat! This minty fresh and chocolatey rich shake sneaks in an abundance of protein, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids. It also contains copious amounts of the essential mineral, magnesium to keep you calm during these final hours leading to Christmas and New Years.

Makes: 1 (16-ounce) shake

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons Chocolate Protein Powder like Aloha 

1 tablespoon flax seeds

2 teaspoons raw cacao powder (I use Navitas Naturals)

2 pitted medjool dates

2 tablespoons raw cashews

2 drops peppermint essential oil

6-7 fresh mint leaves

1/4 medium avocado

1 1/2 cups plant milk of your choice (I used almond)

6 ice cubes

1 teaspoon cacao nibs or raw chocolate bar shavings

1 teaspoon crushed peppermint candy (optional)

Preparation:

1. In a blender, combine protein powder, flax seeds, cacao powder, dates, cashews, peppermint oil, mint leaves, avocado, plant milk, and ice. Blend on high until smooth and creamy, about thirty seconds.

2. Transfer to a glass and top with nibs or chocolate shavings, and peppermint candy if using. Slowly enjoy every sip!
