Cleansing Horror Stories

Do you hear the word, “cleanse” and think, “Oh no, that’s not for me, no way!?” Are you fearful because a friend shared a detox horror story like not being able to leave home for a week from concern of bathroom availability? Or the time their skin broke out so bad, they looked like a teenager going through puberty? Indeed cleansing can cause purging of all kinds, but please know there are a variety of detoxes ranging from gentle to aggressive and not all result in you spending the day on the porcelain throne. I guarantee there is cleanse just right for you and perhaps you may enjoy my upcoming Sip, Slurp, and Savor Pre-Spring Cleanse.

I like to consider this a gateway cleanse because it is mild and introduces you to the world of toxic elimination without jumping straight into the hard-core stuff. Think of it as a detox and foodie event wrapped into one delicious bundle. For seven days you will not only enjoy toxin-releasing liquid meals, but will also be slurping soups and savoring seasonal salads. Now that doesn’t sound too bad, does it?

So why cleanse anyway?

Over time, toxins from non-organic and processed foods, one too many cocktails on Fat Tuesday, prescription and over-the-counter drugs (ugh…yes, your cold and flu medicine), and an overabundance of animal products and caffeine get stored in your tissues and cells. Build up weakens your immune system, promotes allergies and weight gain, causes fatigue, muscle and joint aches and inflammation, and basically make you feel crappy. They need to be given the opportunity to be released and cleansing does just that.

What is cleansing?

Cleansing is the process of first neutralizing toxins and then eliminating them through your kidneys, lungs, skin, liver, and bowels, with most of the cleansing processes taking place in your liver. Proper detoxification gives your body the opportunity to restore harmony to the functions of these organs, freeing you of unwanted weight and chronic disease. The recipes provided in the Sip, Slurp, and Savor cleanse support healthy liver function so you can breeze through feeling light and rejuvenated rather than feeling worse than when you started.

Why will you be eating and not just sipping?

Cleanse programs can be focused on a particular need such as colon cleansing, skin rejuvenating, disease-combating, or cold-busting, some are designed for deep cellular detoxification achieved through fasting, and others, like this one, encourage noshing to help you learn that everyday eating can be synonymous with daily detoxification. Eating clean and weaving in light and liquid meals to your daily routine is an approachable and sustainable way to nourish your body, boost your immunity, and achieve and maintain your ideal weight.

This 7-Day program coming to you the first of March is complete with 7 juices, 7 soups, and 7 salads. All recipes are simple and include an enlightening blurb about the health benefits of the mostly seasonal ingredients.

Putting this program together and testing recipes has been a real treat. I will admit I’m feeling pretty darn amazing right now from slinging and sampling soup in the test kitchen, pairing seasonal veggies and fruits with grains and greens for the salads, and juicing everything from radishes to fennel, turmeric, and sweet potatoes. Did you know a medium sweet potato yields an entire cup of juice?? I was astounded to figure that out while developing an Anti-Inflammatory Yam Milk recipe!

Stay tuned for cleanse details and enjoy a vibrant week!
